Real Wedding: Sarah St. John and Christopher Clark

Share

"Sarah and Chris met in the fall of 2007 when they were both taking Thermodynamics at Benedictine University. It was hot (haha, get it?). They shared a general appreciation for one another and went to lunch a few times. After Thermodynamics, Chris took a job in Houston, TX and Sarah started graduate school at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. In the summer of 2008, Chris invited Sarah to attend a wedding with him in Illinois. They started a relationship soon after that and have been together ever since!

"Sarah and Chris were married on August 15th, 2015. They planned an outdoor wedding and the week preceding the 15th had been beautiful and cool. The day of the wedding everything changed, and it was one of the hottest, most humid days of the summer.  The day was beautiful, regardless.
Sarah and her bridesmaids got ready at her parent’s house in Palatine. Chris and the groomsmen got ready at Sarah’s grandmother’s house in Inverness, which is a block away from Sarah’s parents' house.

"When everyone was ready, the groomsmen walked down the street to take pictures at the Sarah’s parent’s house. After, the limo picked them up and departed for the Royal Melbourne, where the wedding party took a variety of pictures before the ceremony.

"A microburst came through, pouring rain and providing some great photo opportunities beforehand. The wedding was delayed, as the ceremony was planned to be outdoors and Sarah insisted that they wait until the storm rolled through to have the ceremony outside. As far as she was concerned, an indoor wedding was not an option. While the guests waited in the lounge of the Royal Melbourne, they were served champagne, wine, and cocktails. After the storm ended, they got the show on the road -- about 45 minutes late, but everyone was still having a great time!

"Chris and Sarah were married outside on the lawn of the Royal Melbourne under a big tree covered in white puffs. Sarah’s aunt, Sue Clinger, married them. Sarah’s dad and a family friend, Dan Cunningham, sang a song at the ceremony. Sarah and Chris’s dogs, Marin and Melvin, were honored guests, wearing flower wreaths around their necks. They (the dogs) were extraordinarily well behaved during the ceremony.

"A cocktail hour was held on the balcony overlooking the golf course following the ceremony, where guests mingled with Sarah and Chris and enjoyed libations and hors d’oeuvres. The reception followed with lots of toasts, speeches, and dancing. Sarah and Chris had a subtle outdoor theme to their wedding.  They enjoy backpacking, the outdoors, and the mountains, and named their tables after campsites they have visited in the backcountry of our nation’s national parks.

"Sarah and Chris made their grand entrance dancing to the Talking Heads, 'This Must be the Place' covered by Kishi Bashi. The cake cutting immediately followed, and Sarah forgot to feed Chris the cake, instead just shoveling it into her own mouth! Luckily Chris remembered, and shoved more cake in Sarah’s mouth, on top the cake she had already placed there.

"The couple used 'WEDit' to have select friends record key moments. Matt Mason also created a side/picture video that had stills and video elements and was shown during the reception – allowing the guests could see how the events of her wedding day unfolded. The video also included snapshots of their dating years together. It was a treasured memory!" --Sarah and Chris
