Real Wedding: Kalli and Steve Brauer

Share

"We met while attending Streamwood High School. Mutual friends set us up for prom. We hit it off instantly and officially started dating in July of 2006. The early stages of our relationship were spent on the phone, speaking for an hour or two a day since we began dating about a month before pursuing our degrees at separate colleges.

"This time was important to our growth as a couple, as we were unable to physically see each other but had to work every day to keep our relationship strong. Our relationship was built on this foundation of always looking forward to the next time we’d see each other and it hasn’t changed. We see each other every day now, but still miss one another whenever one of us is away.

"This led us to the decision of getting married and spending the rest of our lives in each other’s company. It was clear to us and our families that our relationship was strong enough to make it through the best and worst of times, and that we would make a perfect team as husband and wife. On September 13th, 2014, Steve and Kalli took a walk on Chicago's Lake Shore, and Steve proposed near the water on a chilly fall evening.

"Our wedding ceremony was held underneath the outside terrace at Hawk’s View Golf Club. The natural beauty of the venue and surrounding area conveyed a feeling of peace and love. We spent a very special moment alone on the undercover bridge for our 'first look.'

"During the ceremony, our closest family and friends were seated on both sides of the aisle in white wooden chairs. The involvement of our families and friends was important. They have proved to be great examples of healthy relationships with an emphasis on faith and family. Our wedding colors were light yellow with white and light grey accents. We chose daisies for our flowers. Both our colors and flowers reminded us of new beginnings.

"After the ceremony, guests were invited to the Red Tail Ballroom at Hawk’s View Golf Club for dinner, drinks, and dancing. Burlap runners, honey jar favors, and family photos added to the laidback wedding feel. 'Wonderful Tonight' by Eric Clapton was the perfect song for our first dance. We spent the rest of the night dancing away with our closest family and friends. Our wedding was truly the greatest way to celebrate our marriage and begin our life together." -- Kalli and Steve Brauer
