Jenny was kind enough to answer some questions about her inspiration and experience as a bridal designer in this exclusive interview with CSW! Read on to her her take on the latest looks and so much more!
JY: "My 2016 Collection features romantic figure slimming silhouettes that can be easily mixed and matched while keeping the bridal party looking cohesive. You will find the collection has a hint of the 1930’s style details – think flowy circle cut skirts, godets, flutter sleeves, and necklines in soft drapy fabrications such as chantilly lace, chiffon, and jersey. My favorite gown from this years collection is the Ingrid Gown (show below)."
CSW: What made you decide to become a designer? Why did you choose bridal?
JY: "As far back as I can remember I loved to draw princesses on anything I could get my hands on. My love for designing continued through high school where I found myself doodling sketches of girls in pretty outfits during classes. It was clear to me that designing dresses was my passion and true love.
"I was a Bridesmaid in a friend's wedding and we had tried on countless dresses, and it was so difficult to find anything that was flattering for all the different members of the bridal party. I quickly realized that there was an absence of figure flattering, well-constructed bridesmaid dresses in the market. I had been working as a designer at Ann Taylor for several years and I had also noticed that many bridesmaids were looking to shop in stores such as Ann Taylor and department stores in search of bridesmaid dresses, and that is when it clicked to create a collection of Bridesmaid Dresses that was re-wearable as well as flattering for all different body types.
"The Bridal Collection actually came about as a request from brides looking for a simple, understated gown for their wedding. When I started out my company 12 year ago, I had only designed bridesmaid dresses, but we received numerous requests from brides to re-create our bridesmaid styles in shades of white to wear as their wedding gown. Just as there was an absence of re-wearable bridesmaids’ dresses, there was also an absence of understated, classic Bridal Gowns in the market. We started off with custom special orders, and after the growing demand of requests, I debuted by first Bridal Collection in 2006. The Bridal Collection has and continues to evolve, but we still maintain the clean simple lines that the Jenny Yoo Bride is looking for."
CSW: What overarching themes do you use when designing your collections?
JY: "With each collection, I strive to design dresses with the person wearing it in mind. My focus is not only creating a beautiful design, but also keeping in mind comfort and versatility so that they can enjoy the special occasion. There is nothing worse than fretting over whether you can dance easily or feeling self-conscious in your dress."

CSW: What styles throughout history inspire you today? Who are your fashion icons?
JY: "My fashion icon is Audrey Hepburn. My sense of style in both how I dress and how I design is very much in line with her style choice of clean and simple lines while still maintaining a feminine and refined look. Much of what you see in her images from the 50’s and 60’s are still fashion staples that women still swear by today: fitted pants, the 'LBD,' and cropped silhouettes. She is timeless and classic and will never go out of style."
CSW: What advice do you have for brides searching for their perfect gown?
JY: "When I see a bride come out in a gown, I can tell how comfortable she feels in the dress by the way she carries herself. My biggest piece of advice when choosing 'the dress' is make sure you are comfortable both in terms of the style and fit of the gown."
