CSW: Tell us about your history. Why did you become a bridal designer? What was your path?
KF: I know a lot of designers might say this, but I truly know I was born to be a bridal designer! From a super young age, I was always so creative and loved clothes, especially dresses! Once I was old enough to really focus my energy on being in the arts, I put all my efforts into any classes and design project I could get my hands on. Finally, it was in college when I created a bridal collection for an assignment, and I remember knowing at that very moment that I was destined to be a wedding gown designer and I haven’t looked back since.
CSW: What are the hallmarks of a true Kelly Faetanini design?
KF: I like to say I create “Modern dresses for the Timeless Bride”- I love taking the trends and making them accessible for all shapes and sizes without being too over the top. All of my collections are built on two rules: keeping the feminine body shape in mind, curves in all the right places, and good fabrics that are soft and luxe in detail. Plus I love a little sparkle and rich textures, so all of my designs have something special on them that shines in its own way. My hope with every dress is that my brides look back on their wedding day twenty years later and still love their look, that would be a true design success.
CSW: What is your biggest piece of advice for brides shopping for their perfect gown?
KF: I think brides feel such pressure to make a "statement" with their wedding dress, they just go for the 'wow' factor without being true to their real personal style. With my collections, I want brides to feel glamorous but also confidently comfortable. My top advice would be to stick to styles you know you feel good in. When you're in a gown that feels like yourself, you will never have any regrets with your choice. Your wedding day look should just be your best version of your everyday self, stay true to your personal style and you will look (and feel) amazing.
CSW: What sort of accessories are becoming most popular?
KF: Ready-to-Wear (RTW) is so second nature in bridal now that really anything goes! Whether you are wearing a funky colored heel for your “something blue,” or your favorite blazer over your gown, it’s all fun and totally acceptable. I'm actually loving the idea of an alternative cover up especially when it’s something unexpected. One of the ‘The Knot’ editorials featured my “Leeta” gown from the Spring 15 collection under a black leather jacket, the look was so edgy but felt feminine at the same time, it was a perfect ‘Kelly’ combination.
